Valais

Valais is a large canton in southern Switzerland that borders both France and Italy. The Swiss Alps are the dominant feature of the region, with winter sports acting as a main attraction to towns such as Zermatt and Crans-Montana. In Zermatt, visitors will be greeted by the famous Matterhorn and accompanying in museum. In the colder months, skiing, snowboarding and other winter activities dominate the region, as tourists flock to the small alpine town to enjoy soft powdery snow. Further north in Crans-Montana there are also plenty of ski runs and winter sporting opportunities.

The height of summer is also a popular time to visit Valais as the temperatures are perfect for alpine hiking, mountain biking and sightseeing. With flowers in full bloom, and the landscape dotted with mountain streams and small villages, the hiking trails outside of Crans-Montana provide the perfect natural escape. In town, visitors will find over 300 boutique shops, Swiss restaurants and plenty of night spots.

Despite its small size, Crans-Montana is home to numerous discos, bars and even a casino. Pacha Club is a popular and trendy night time destination and features live DJs and a glowing bar. Open until 4am daily, Casino Crans Montana is another frequented night spot. The casino contains English roulette, blackjack, poker and slot machines. Patrons must be at least 18 with a valid ID, and casual dress is permitted.
