Bern

Bern is the capital of Switzerland, and its center of culture and entertainment. To get a taste for Bern’s international side, head to the Markthalle to sample foods from around the world. According to legend, the city was named by the Duke of Zähringen after the first animal he met on a hunt, which was a bear. Since then, Bern has been closely tied with the animal. One of the city’s biggest attractions is its bear pit, home to a family of bears for visitors to observe. Also in Bern is a museum dedicated to perhaps the town’s most famous resident, Albert Einstein. Einstein devised his theory of relativity whilst living in Bern, and his house can now serves as a museum.

Just across the bridge from central Bern, visitors have the option of stopping by the Grand Casino Bern. A great night spot, Kursaal has a full bar serving champagne, as well as a restaurant. The casino itself offers Roulette, Blackjack, and Poker as well as electronic slot machines. The only other casino in the Canton of Bern ia located in Interlaken, a well-known destination of nature lovers.
