Asturias

Asturias is one of Spain’s smallest regions and sits along a stretch of the country’s northern border with the Bay of Biscay. The area is a great mix of traditional Spanish seaside towns and a rural interior perfect for hiking, horseback riding and other outdoor activities. Oviedo and Gijon are two of the largest cities in Asturias, and attract the most visitors. Oviedo is located about 30 miles inland and offers a charming old town with gothic cathedrals, beautiful parks and winding streets. On the coastline, Gijon features a stunning harbor along with Playa de Lorenzo – a curved sandy beach rivaling those on Spain’s southern coastline.

In town, Gijon’s Plaza Mayor is one of the most beautiful in Spain, with other attractions including ancient Roman ruins and an aquarium. Gijon is also home to a mid-sized casino called Casino de Asturia. Open until 4:30am on Fridays and Saturdays, it’s a great place for night owls to unwind, and offers French and American roulette, Blackjack , Punto Banco/Baccarat and more. Patrons must be 18 years or older and show a valid ID and proper casual dress is required for entry.
