Auvergne

The region of Auvergne sits right at the heart of France, and is characterized by impressive natural features and quiet towns. The area was once the most volcanically active region of Europe and is dotted today with inactive volcanoes covered in lush green plant life. The Regional Nature Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne is visited by thousands of tourists each year eager to hike and explore the unusual forested landscape and numerous volcanic crater lakes. Clermont Ferrand is the region’s capital and makes a great base camp for exploring the area. The town is unique in that many of its buildings were constructed using black lava stones. One of the oldest and best preserved towns in France, it’s a wonderful place to take a stroll or sample French cuisine.

Located at the outskirts of Clermont Ferrand is Casino de Royat, one of several casinos in Auvergne .
