This is my review of the Casino Reeperbahn in Hamburg. For more information on this casino, please click here.
Coming out of the Casino Esplanade in Hamburg, we decided to quickly check out the Casino Reeperbahn, the only other casino in the city to offer live casino games. It is less than 10 minutes by taxi from the Esplanade to the Reeperbahn. But the two casinos cannot be any farther apart in terms of their style and atmosphere (for a review of the Esplanade casino, please click here). The Reeperbahn Casino is located at the heart of St. Pauli, the famous and infamous nightlife and red-light district of Hamburg. In the past, the area was known for its cheap bars, but in the last years more and more night clubs, discotheques and also the sex industry have moved to this district, making it a major attraction for both locals and tourists. It seemed to me that the appearance and services of the casino are intended for the typical Reeperbahn visitor – drunk and casual.
Admission
Entrance is limited to those 18 years old and over. You must show a valid photo ID or passport. The admission price is symbolic; 1€. There is no dress code here really. Most visitors just drift in from the street with whatever they have on.

Atmosphere at the Casino Reeperbahn
The casino is located in a three stories, narrow building. Everything is compact and the space is economically used. On the entrance floor on the street level there are two Roulette tables, two blackjack table, very few slots and a small bar. There is no room for much else on this floor. The slots casino is on the second floor, and the Poker room on the third. Although smoking is only allowed in the slots area on the second floor, it is not properly sealed and the cigarettes smoke floods the other floors as well.
There is little elegance to speak of. The design is simple and practical. The space inside is divided by glass walls, and the elevator to the second and third floors is also made of a glass box. At the time of our visit the casino was only about a quarter full, but that might have been due to the fact that it was late on a Sunday night. Still, personally, I liked the atmosphere in the casino Reeperbahn.
Games Casino Reeperbahn
There wasn’t much action going on at the casino at the time of our visit. Both Roulette tables on the entrance floor were in operation, with a limits of 2€ – 3,500€. One of the Blackjack tables was also open, with stakes of 5€ – 500€. Most of the crowd at the casino was playing Roulette.
The slot machines area on the second floor of the Casino Reeperbahn was quite narrow and packed and I didn’t feel very comfortable there. Nevertheless it offers a decent number (90 machines according to the casino’s website) and selection of slot machines. We saw mainly 5 reel slots but also a few electronic Roulette stations.
There are three Poker tables on the third floor of the casino. The casino offers Poker daily from 20:00. At the time of our visit, a Poker cash game was taking place at one of the tables. The players were mainly young men. The Poker area is relatively spacy. There is also a small bar.
Conclusion Casino Reeperbahn
If you like the informal atmosphere, you will enjoy playing casino games here better than the other alternative in Hamburg, the Esplenade casino. I would say the atmosphere in the Reeperbahn casino is more like in a gaming hall that in a casino. Still, I felt that the slots area was small and stuffy and I don’t recommend it. All in all, however, the casino fits very well into the Hamburg nightlife and entertainment district. And if you are already in the St. Pauli district, I would definitely recommend visiting the casino there.
