We drove 40 minutes in the pouring rain, across the border from Casino Seefeld in Austria to Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany. The German casino was a big letdown. Especially in comparison with the lovely Seefeld branch of Casinos Austria. In retrospect, the trip to Garmisch could have waited for another night.
Parking Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
I entered the address listed on the casino’s website (am Kurpark 10) into the navigation system. But because of recent traffic changes, the navigation system led us to a dead end. I drove around a bit and parked on a nearby street and walked over to the casino. I was later told at the casino that the entrance to the parking lot is on Zimmermeistergasse.
Dress Code Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The casino in Garmisch has a formal dress code. A jacket and dress shirt are required in the live games area of the casino. You can rent a jacket at the casino.

The entrance fee to the casino is € 2.50. To be allowed in the casino, you must be at least 18 years old and present a valid photo ID. Atmosphere Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The Garmisch casino is housed in an old-fashioned log-house, which fits nicely with its surroundings. The lobby is lovely, with a wide marble-tiled reception area and a glass elevator leading up to the first floor, where the live table games are located. Up to this point, the place is very nicely done.
Entering the live games area on the first floor, I was immediately disappointed. I expected a cozy, ski-lodge atmosphere, in line with the exterior of the casino and the small town setting.
Instead, I was overwhelmed by the tall ceilings, heavy metal columns and enormous metallic-green chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. I would say the atmosphere in the casino is more of a train station than a ski-lodge.
The problem is not the warehouse-tall ceilings. The Casino in Duisburg is also very large and has tall ceilings. But in Duisburg, the many small niches, with a small coffee table, comfortable seats and decorative lamps, where you can seat and relax for a while, give a homier atmosphere to the casino.
Smoking Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Smoking is not allowed in Casino Garmisch (a nice change from the casino in Seefled had just visited, or any Austrian casino for that matter). If you want to smoke, you can either go to the smoking lounge on the ground floor or you can step out to the beautiful terrace on the first floor, overlooking the entrance to the casino and offering a great view of Garmisch.
Live Table Games Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
At the time of my visit, at around 22:00 on a Friday night, the crowed at the casino was very thin. I expected the placed to be fuller on a Friday night. However, It was pouring outside.
Three roulette tables were open, out of a total of five available tables. The minimum bet at all tables was € 2. At one table, which was empty of players, sat three Croupiers looking decidedly bored. I think it would have been better if the croupier picked up some chips and started playing for fun, so the place doesn’t look so “dead”.
One of two available e Black Jack tables was open. It had a minimum bet of € 10 and was well attended. Apart from that, one Casino Holdem table was open, but was mostly abandoned.
Poker Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Again, maybe on account of the pouring rain, there were two open Poker tables at the time of my visit. One with a Holdem cash game, limits of 2/4, and a second with a tournament. I have to say that the punk hairstyle of one of the Poker dealer’s was perhaps the one bright spot in Casino Garmisch.
Slots Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The slots casino is located on the entrance floor, to the right of the reception area. The slots casino is likewise smoking-free. I estimate seeing a least 150 slot machines, mostly the usual 5-reel video slots, and a few electronic Roulette stations. To play, you must use the card you receive at the reception, so you can cash out later at the cashier. I liked the atmosphere at the slots casino better than on the live games hall upstairs. The small bar in the slots casino felt friendly, clean and bright.
Dining Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
In the main, live games hall in Casino Garmisch, there is a very long bar where you can order bar food and snacks such as Viennese small sausages. There is also a full menu restaurant next to the bar which I understand has a good reputation.
Conclusion Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen
I asked myself for a long time what should I write about Casino Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The personnel were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the slots-casino, even though smoking is not allowed in there. I was disappointed by the live games area, not so much because of the game selection or the staff, but more because of the cold, train station atmosphere. If you have to make a choice, I would prefer visiting the nearby Casino Seefeld.
