Salzburg
Salzburg is located just a few kilometres from the German border and the famous holiday resort of Berchtesgaden. A local bus trundles between the two famous towns. Salzburg is Mozart-country, boasting numerous orchestras and treating visitors to a plethora of concerts throughout the year. The composer was born here and spent his formative years in the town. The lovely 18th century architecture, the narrow cobbled streets and charming market places, independent shops and traditional cafes make Salzburg a charming place to visit. Sitting in a beergarten in summer and eating an al fresco “Schnitzel”, while an orchestra practices Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” somewhere close by is an unforgettable experience. And for a more up to date experience, of course, Salzburg is home to the Sound of Music and many tours are geared around the main sights featured in the movie.Musical treats aside, there are plenty of entertainments. Casino Salzburg and Casino Bad Gastein are the Salzburg region’s best known casinos, providing a welcome change from Mozart-related evening activities. In Austria casino guests must be 18 years of age, should be smartly dressed and have their ID ready for inspection.
